My Story from UpGrad (Sales) to GlobalLogic to Swiggy

If you would’ve met me a year ago, I wasn’t in a data role. I wasn’t writing SQL queries or building dashboards.

I was on Google Meet calls — as an Academic Counselor at upGrad, helping people explore careers in Business Analytics and Data Analytics.

Yes, you read that right. My journey into analytics began on the other side of the screen.

In July 2023, I joined UpGrad through campus placement, coming from a background in BCA and MCA. My job was in sales, where I consulted clients on the right learning paths in tech and analytics. I had hundreds of conversations with aspiring analysts — and somewhere between those G-Meet calls and client interactions, a spark was lit in me too.

I realized I didn’t just want to talk about data careers.
I wanted to build one.

So after nearly 10 months at upGrad, I took the leap. I resigned in April 2024 and committed to switching to the analytics domain.

That leap of faith led me to GlobalLogic — where my analytical journey officially began.

At GlobalLogic, I worked as an Associate Analyst, where I:

  • Got hands-on with structured Excel data
  • Created basic yet meaningful dashboards
  • Updated Jira boards for task tracking
  • Delivered client reports under tight deadlines
  • Assisted senior analysts on gig workforce tracking and performance allocation

These tasks helped me build confidence with tools, documentation, and real-world business scenarios. It wasn’t flashy, but it gave me my first real taste of the data grind.

Today, I’m a Business Analyst at Swiggy, and the scope has grown massively.

Now, I:

  • Analyze surge pricing models and gig worker incentives for Instamart and food delivery teams
  • Work with large-scale datasets using Snowflake
  • Automate tasks via SQL and Jira Postman
  • Build Power BI dashboards that support daily business decisions
  • Collaborate remotely using Slack and Jira in fast-paced cross-functional teams

My work directly impacts how efficiently gig workers are allocated, how incentives are optimized, and how we deliver a better customer experience across regions like Delhi NCR and the North East.

This blog isn’t just about what I do now — it’s a reflection of my shift from:

  • Sales to Analytics
  • Curiosity to Capability
  • Talking about data to working with data

So if you’re reading this and wondering whether it’s too late to switch — trust me, I’ve been there. And I’m building this space to show that it’s absolutely possible.
